Picking Your Seat on JetBlue's A321 Transcon (Mint)

This is the coast-to-coast bird with lie-flat Mint up front and a long economy cabin behind it. Both cabins have quirks worth knowing before you commit, and a couple of rows are genuinely worth avoiding. Here's the walk-through.

In economy, row 29 is the one to dodge — 29A through 29F sit against the back galley and lavatory, so you get noise, foot traffic, and recline that barely moves. Row 17 is the next trap: 17A–17F all have limited recline because they sit ahead of the exit row, and reviewers flag it plainly — one called it a "not a good choice." Then there are the over-wing windows. The map's restricted-view stretch runs rows 9–15, and 10A, 10F, 11A and 11F are the worst offenders, with misaligned windows that leave you staring at a wall panel instead of the ground. And in the exit row, 18A and 18F look tempting for the legroom but have no window at all plus fixed armrests — a strange trade.

Up in Mint, row 5 is the soft spot: 5A, 5C and 5D all sit near a lavatory, and even fans give it a middling three stars ("watch out for this seat maybe").

Mint, rows 1–5

The front pair-row, row 1, is the pick if you want a full lie-flat with extra bulkhead legroom — 1A, 1C, 1D and 1F all rate well, and 1D earns a straight five stars for the stretch-out room. The real prizes, though, are the single "throne" suites in rows 2 and 4. Because seats C and D are blocked in those rows, 2A, 2F, 4A and 4F are solo window suites with counter space on either side. A traveler in 2F put it best — the throne seats are "little mini suites with tons of space," though very tall sleepers may still find the foot cubby snug. Row 3 is a standard 2-2 lie-flat pair if the thrones are gone. Just remember row 5's lavatory issue and work forward from there.

Economy, rows 6–29

Row 6 is the bulkhead front row and the strongest economy choice — 6A through 6F all get extra legroom, and the reviews back it up, with 6C, 6D and 6E all landing five stars. The catch is standard for a bulkhead: no under-seat stowage, and the tray table lives in the armrest, which shaves a little width. Fair trade for the space.

The other extra-legroom seats sit in the exit row, row 18. Aim for 18B, 18C and 18E — real legroom, solidly rated, and 18B drew a "can't go wrong with this seat." Note that 18D doesn't exist on this map, and skip the A/F ends here for the no-window problem mentioned above. Just behind, 19D also has extra legroom and a happy five-star reviewer, with the same no-stowage-at-takeoff caveat.

Everything from row 7 back through the mid-cabin is standard 3-3 at 32–35 inches of pitch. If you're chasing a clean window view, stay ahead of row 9 or behind row 15 to clear the wing. And if a fast exit matters, the lower-teens rows deplane far quicker than anything back near 29.

Every seat on this aircraft has power and a seatback screen, and Wi-Fi is available cabin-wide — so the decision really comes down to legroom, recline, and how close you want to be to a lavatory.
