JetBlue A320 (New): Reading the Restyled Cabin

When JetBlue "restyled" these A320s, it squeezed two extra rows in and ended up with 162 all-economy seats across 27 rows of 3-3 — no domestic first, no recline surprises beyond the usual. Every seat gets a seatback screen and a plug, which is more than most densified single-aisles bother with. The catch is that the good rows are concentrated at the very front and at the exits, and the back third is where this layout quietly turns against you.

Front of the cabin (rows 1–5)

Row 1 is the bulkhead, and it's a genuine mixed bag. JetBlue's Airbus A320 "Restyled" configuration features 42 designated "Even More Space" seats situated at rows 1 to 5 and 10 to 11 , so 1A–1F come with extra legroom and nobody reclining into your knees. But the tray tables live in the armrests, which shaves width off every seat in the row, and there's no under-seat stowage — everything goes overhead for takeoff and landing. If you value legroom over elbow room, it's a fair trade; if you fidget with a bag at your feet, it isn't. Rows 2–5 give you the same Even More Space legroom without the bulkhead compromises, and they're the most comfortable seats on the plane if you're willing to pay for them.

The wing and exit rows (rows 8–15)

Windows get unreliable across the whole over-wing stretch (rows 8–15), so a "window" seat here may frame mostly wing.

Row 9 is the trap. Every seat, 9A through 9F, is fixed upright because the exit row sits directly behind it — you get none of the exit-row legroom and all of the no-recline penalty. Skip the entire row.

The exit rows themselves are where the value is. Row 10 has terrific legroom but won't recline, and its seatbacks are locked because the row behind is also an exit. Row 11 is the standout: 11B, 11C, 11D and 11E get exit-row legroom and actually recline, with nobody reclining ahead of them — the best economy seats on the aircraft. The window seats 10A, 10F, 11A and 11F carry small caveats: a possibly missing armrest and a notably firm cushion, so aisle or middle beats window here.

The long middle (rows 12–24)

This is standard 3-3 economy with little to separate one row from the next — 32 inches of pitch, seatback screens, a plug at every seat. If deplaning speed matters, bias toward the lower row numbers, since the front doors clear first. Windows realign once you're past the wing, so a genuine view returns somewhere around row 16 onward.

The back (rows 25–27)

The tail is the part to avoid. Row 25 sits next to a lavatory and galley, with limited recline throughout, and the two window seats are the worst offenders: 25A and 25F have no window at all, so you're paying window-seat expectations for a blank wall beside the toilets. Rows 26 and 27 are jammed against the rear galley and lavs, and travelers regularly report the last row has no usable window and a closed-in, dim feel. If you end up back here, take an aisle (25C, 25D, 26C, 26D) so at least the missing window isn't your problem.
