Picking a Seat on Delta's CRJ-700 (SkyWest, CR7)

This is a two-class regional jet with a quirk in your favor: no middle seat anywhere. First is 1-2, everything else is 2-2, so every seat is a window or an aisle. But a few rows will make you regret sitting down, so start there.

Which seats should I skip?

Row 11 (11A, 11B, 11C, 11D) is the worst on the plane. None of these recline — the exit row sits directly behind them — and A and D are over the wing with a blocked view. You get the downsides of an exit row without the legroom.

The back of Main is the other trouble spot. Rows 17 and 18 sit next to the lavatory after row 18, with engine and wing noise on top of it. 17B, 17C, 18B and 18C are the roughest. 18A and 18D add restricted window views. If you can move forward, do.

Where's the legroom for tall flyers?

Row 12 is the exit row, and it earns its keep. 12B and 12C are the standout picks — extra legroom, and the seat ahead of you can't recline into your knees. 12A and 12D also have the space, but the window seats here may be missing an armrest and the cushions can feel very firm. None of row 12 has underseat storage during takeoff and landing, so pack light for the floor.

In the forward cabin, row 4 gives extra legroom without exit-row rules — 4A, 4B, 4C and 4D are all solid.

Best seats in First?

Because the A column is a single seat, 1A, 2A and 3A give you a window and the aisle with no seatmate. 1A and 1C lose underseat storage at the bulkhead, so you're stowing everything overhead at pushback. Row 3 backs up to a curtain rather than a solid wall, and 3C sits exposed to the service cart. If you want the quietest First seat with a real footwell, 2A is the one to chase.

Couples and window people?

Any 2-2 pair works for two people traveling together — you're side by side with no stranger in the middle. Note the CRJ's curved fuselage trims a little shoulder and foot room at the A and D window seats, so wide-shouldered flyers often prefer the aisle. Window fans should also know rows 9 through 14 sit over the wing with a restricted view.

Fastest way off the plane?

Sit forward. First (rows 1-3) and row 4 deplane first. Anything from row 15 back means a long wait behind the whole cabin.
