Picking a seat on Delta's CRJ-700 (Endeavor)

The layout's defining trait: no middle seat anywhere. First runs 1-2 with a solo A column, and Comfort+ and Main are 2-2, so every seat is a window or an aisle. One catch that shapes every decision back here — in-seat power (USB-A plus 110/220v plugs) exists only through row 7. Rows 8-18 have nothing.

The seats worth booking

First Class, 1A. The A side of First is a true solo seat with no seatmate and its own aisle access. Row 1 also has the most space in front of it. Its only real drawback is no underseat storage, since the bulkhead sits ahead — so your bag goes overhead for takeoff and landing.

Comfort+, row 4 (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D). All four bulkhead seats carry extra legroom and rate well. You also keep power at your seat, which the whole back half of the plane lacks. 4A and 4D are the picks if you want a window with a wall in front of your knees.

Main Cabin, 12B and 12C. This is the best legroom in coach. Row 12 is the exit row with extra legroom, and the seat in front doesn't recline into you. 12B and 12C are the cleaner choices in that row because they avoid the over-wing quirks that hit 12A and 12D (more on those below). The trade-off is fixed for all exit seats: no underseat stowage during takeoff and landing.

The seats to avoid

Main Cabin, row 11 (11A, 11B, 11C, 11D). The worst row up front. None of these seats recline because the exit row sits directly behind them, so you get a stiff seatback with no legroom payoff. 11A and 11D also sit over the wing with a blocked view. There's no upside here.

Main Cabin, rows 17 and 18. The back of the plane, and it feels like it. Every seat in both rows sits next to the rear lavatory with engine and wing noise, and row 18 backs onto the lav and closet. 17B, 17C, 18B and 18C rate the lowest of anything on the aircraft. Row 18 also fixes your recline against the rear wall.

First Class, 3C. An exposed aisle seat that tends to get bumped by the service cart, plus there's a curtain rather than a solid bulkhead behind row 3, so 3A, 3C and 3D all lose the sense of a private cabin.

The wildcards

Main Cabin, 12A and 12D. Same extra legroom and non-reclining seat in front as 12B/12C, but these two sit over the wing with a restricted view, may be missing an armrest, and can have a noticeably firm cushion. Worth it if legroom is all you care about; skip them if you want to look out the window or spread out.

First Class, 1C and 1D. Solid recliners up front, but like 1A they have no underseat storage because of the bulkhead. Fine if you don't need anything at your feet during taxi.

Main Cabin, over-wing rows 9 through 14. Beyond rows 11 and 12, the window seats through here (the A and D columns) all sit over the wing with a compromised view. The aisle seats dodge that. If the view matters, book ahead of row 9 in Main; if it doesn't, these are ordinary 2-2 seats with quick aisle access.
