Picking your seat on Delta's 767-300ER (76L)

Older 767s usually put you in an angled or 2-2-2 business cabin. This one doesn't. Delta One here is a true 1-2-1 lie-flat layout in rows 1-9, so every front-cabin seat reaches the aisle without climbing over anyone. The middle cabin (rows 16-21) is an unusual 2-3-2 Comfort section with several seats deliberately left out, and Main runs 22-42. Wi-Fi is available throughout.

I'm tall — where's the legroom?

The exit rows are 20 and 21 in Comfort. Both give extra legroom, but the tradeoff is no recline and lavatory noise nearby. Of these, 21A and 21G are the strongest picks — window seats with the legroom and no missing-seat awkwardness. 20A and 20G are close behind. Skip the middle exit seats 20B, 20F, 21B and 21F; they carry the same downsides with a worse rating and no window.

Row 17 also earns praise for legroom (17A and 17B both rate top marks), though the tray table lives in the armrest, which narrows the seat slightly, and there's no under-seat stowage for takeoff and landing. In Main, the row 22 bulkhead (22C, 22D, 22E) has extra room in front but no under-seat storage and sits by a lavatory — a frequent complaint. One traveler flatly called 22C a seat to avoid.

Couples who want to be left alone

In Delta One, the two center seats (D and E) in each row are the pair to book. In Comfort, look at rows 20 and 21: they only have the window pairs A/B and F/G, so you get two seats together with no third neighbor and exit-row legroom. Rows 16 through 19 are standard 2-3-2 if you'd rather trade legroom for full recline.

Light sleeper — what should I avoid?

Row 1 backs onto the forward galley and lavatory; 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D all get flagged for both, and reviews mention the traffic. Row 9 sits near the bassinet position (9A and 9D), so expect the occasional infant nearby. In back, the whole of row 19 lines a lavatory and rates poorly across the row, with 19C singled out as a seat to skip. Rows 41 and 42 are boxed in by the rear lavatories and galley and are rated bad throughout. Closets sit behind row 9, and lavatories behind rows 19 and 42 — plan around those.

Window people

Delta One windows are the quiet, private choice thanks to the staggered layout. Two exceptions: 6A and 6D have a misaligned window and rate poorly, so pass on those if the view matters. In Main, rows 30 through 40 sit over the wing with a restricted view — fine if you want a stable ride, less good if you plan to look out. For an unobstructed window in back, aim ahead of row 30.

Quietest seats in Main

Rows 23 through 29 are the calm middle of the economy cabin: past the row 22 bulkhead problems, ahead of the over-wing stretch, and away from both lavatory clusters. Row 28 drew a solid review, with the note that a long flight will cramp your knees unless you get up and walk every hour or so. Avoid the two ends of Main — row 22 by the forward lav and rows 41-42 by the rear lav and galley.

Best and worst, quickly

  • Delta One: book rows 2-5, 7-8; avoid row 1 (galley and lav), row 6 (misaligned window) and row 9 (bassinet).
  • Comfort: 21A and 21G for legroom, or any window pair in rows 16-18 for full recline; avoid row 19 entirely and the middle exit seats 20B, 20F, 21B, 21F.
  • Main: rows 23-29, ahead of the wing; avoid 22C/22D/22E, the over-wing view in 30-40, and rows 41-42.

Getting off fast

Front cabins clear first, so Delta One row 1 and the front of Comfort put you near the door. Sitting in rows 41-42 means waiting out the whole plane on top of the lavatory noise.

this is indeed a bit too close to the galley, the light was on the entire night. sit further back in the cabin

    close to aisle

clearly the even numbers in this cabin are the iwn. I flew this transcon on a redeye and just really didn't like being right next to the aisle, I felt so exposed. try for one of the even rows by the window instead.

Decent seat with short walk to toilets. Would recommend walking around the cabin every hour or so as right knee is likely to get cramp.
