Picking a seat on Delta's 767-300ER (76K)

Most travelers on this jet ride in the Main Cabin, a 2-3-2 layout running rows 30 to 55, and the good news is that the middle stretch of it is calmer than the map's clutter of lav symbols suggests. The trick is staying away from the noisy bookends and knowing which "extra legroom" rows quietly give back what they promise. Here's how the aircraft reads from nose to tail.

Delta One (rows 1–7)

The forward cabin is 26 lie-flat seats in a staggered 1-2-1 arrangement, and every one has direct aisle access. Delta One uses Thompson Vantage lie-flat seats, which Delta has recently reupholstered so the cabin looks fresh, though it's a first-generation product with very little storage and a narrow footwell. Solo travelers should target the odd-numbered window pods, where the seat sits flush against the window away from the aisle — 3A, 3D, 5A, 5D are the picks. Note that 7A and 7D don't exist on this map. Skip 1B and 1C, the weakest seats up front, sandwiched between the galley and lavatory; 1A and 1D share that traffic to a lesser degree. Couples in the center do fine in the B/C pairs, but 7B and 7C sit at the bassinet position, so expect infant company on family-heavy routes.

Premium Select (rows 20–22)

Three rows in a 2-2-2 layout, pitch 38, and the whole cabin is a reasonable place to sit. Row 20 is the bulkhead, which buys a bit of stretch-out room but costs you underseat storage during takeoff and landing across all six seats. The clear seats to avoid are 22A and 22F: on the 76K, Premium Select 22A and 22F have no window — a wall view only. If a window matters to you, book row 20 or 21 on the A/F sides instead.

Main Cabin (rows 30–55)

Rows 30 through 40 sit over the wing, so windows here look onto metal rather than open sky, and row 30 is a bulkhead with no underseat storage. The rows to genuinely avoid are the lav clusters. Row 32 is the worst of them — near the lavatory throughout, and 32A and 32F lose recline without the compensating legroom of a true exit row. Row 35 dangles extra legroom at 35C, 35D and 35E, but all three sit against the lav island with nowhere to stow a bag underneath.

The two exit rows, 33 and 34, both deliver real legroom, and here 34 is the stronger of the pair: 34A and 34G rate best because they recline, where the entire row 33 is fixed upright. All of these seats sit near the mid-cabin lavatories, so light sleepers should weigh the legroom against the foot traffic.

For a quiet, ordinary seat, the unmarked rows in the low 40s through low 50s are the calmest part of the cabin — far enough from the wing for a real window view and clear of the galleys. The tail is where it deteriorates again: rows 53 and 54 draw the rear lavatories, and row 55 is a center-only stub (C/D/E) pressed right against them, with 55C and 55E rating among the poorest seats back there. Trade a little deplaning speed for a seat around row 42 to 50 and you'll skip nearly all of it.
