Air Koryo has the particular distinction of being North Korea's official state airline, operating from the hermetic country's capital airport in Pyongyang. Despite its relatively exclusive political status, Air Koryo operates full-service flights to 23 destinations. Several of these routes are regional North Korean flights, however there are a growing number of routes to nearby Russian and Chinese cities. Air Koryo's fleet of 19 planes are primarily older Russian aircraft, though the state government has announced plans to modernize this fleet in coming years.
